About this product
How the Chisel Plough works
A chisel plough pulls narrow tines through the ground and shatters hard layers below the surface instead of flipping the soil. Roots can then reach deeper, water drains better, and the topsoil stays where it is with crop residue still covering it.
Two sizes are offered. The three-tine model is 1.2 m wide and suits tractors of about 50 to 55 HP; the five-tine model is 2 m wide for 60 to 90 HP. Tine spacing is adjustable and the shovels are made of hard steel, so the plough can be set up for different soils.
Think about how deep your hard layer sits before choosing. The three-tine plough is the lighter option for tractors of 50–55 HP; the five-tine model covers a wider strip but wants 60–90 HP. Because the soil is not inverted, a chisel plough works best when you want to keep residue on the surface and still open up compacted ground beneath.
Before you buy the Chisel Plough
If your fields suffer from a hard layer under the surface, a chisel plough is often the most economical cure. Think about the working depth you need and the tractor power you have, because deep tines draw a lot of pull. It also suits farmers who want to leave residue on top to protect the soil.

Questions
Questions about the Chisel Plough
Many growers use it instead of ploughing to keep residue on the surface and protect the soil from erosion. Others still plough every few years and use the chisel in between to break compaction.
