About this product

How the Maize Sheller works

A maize sheller strips the kernels off the cob and clears away the central stem. It is used mainly in seed processing, where large quantities of maize arrive after harvest and the grain has to come off the cob cleanly without being damaged.

Once the cobs have been husked and dried, they are fed into the machine, where they rub gently against each other to loosen the kernels. This soft action protects seed quality and keeps its ability to sprout. The machine weighs 320 kg, stands 6 ft high and 4.5 ft wide, is driven by a PTO shaft through V-belts and needs a tractor of 50 HP or more.

Let the cobs dry fully before shelling: damp cobs clog the machine and crack kernels. Feed them at a steady rate rather than in bursts, and keep the V-belts tight. The sheller needs a tractor of 50 HP or more and handles 1,400–1,600 kg an hour, so plan a place to collect and bag the grain as it comes off.

Before you buy the Maize Sheller

A sheller turns a hard, slow job into a quick one. At 1,400 to 1,600 kg an hour it suits farms, cooperatives and small traders. Feed it steadily, keep the cobs reasonably dry for the best result, and check the screens regularly for wear.
