How the Reaper Binder works
The reaper binder does three jobs in one: it cuts the crop, gathers it and ties it into neat sheaves. That cuts labour costs and speeds up harvest for wheat, oats, barley, millet, sorghum, sesame, lavender and other stalked crops, on flat fields as well as uneven ground.
A sickle-bar cutter with replaceable hardened blades works at 1.2–1.6 m wide, in crops 30–160 cm tall, and a mechanical twine binder ties bundles of about 10–25 cm. It needs at least 50 HP and runs from the PTO, or can be had with a self-propelled gearbox. Weight is typically 350–700 kg depending on the model, and a sulky seat, transport wheels, spare blades and a counterweight are available.
Choose the model width by your crop and tractor: working width runs from 1.2 to 1.6 m and weight from about 350 to 700 kg, with a minimum of 50 HP. Check the twine supply before each day, and inspect the blades and gearbox oil regularly as the maintenance list recommends.

A reaper binder is a practical machine for smaller farms where bundles of crop are still handled by hand. It copes with a good range of crop heights and widths, so check the working width against your tractor and your rows. Keep spare twine in stock at harvest time.
