About this product
How the Bulb Planter works
Digging a separate hole for each bulb is slow work, and the holes vary in depth. A bulb planter replaces the spade with a hollow cylinder: push it into the soil, twist, lift, and a tidy plug of earth comes up with it.
Drop the bulb into the hole, release the plug back on top with the spring-loaded handle, and firm the soil. The cylinder is black steel with a clean cutting rim, and depth marks on the side of similar tools help you plant to a consistent depth.
The short wooden T-handle gives a firm push with both hands at ground level. It is a good tool for lawns, borders and orchard strips where bulbs are planted in drifts, and for nurseries that plant them by the hundred.
Before you buy the Bulb Planter
If you plant dozens of bulbs, a corer saves your knees and gives every bulb the same depth. It works best in loose or lawn soil. In very stony or clay ground a spade or auger may do the job more reliably.
