About this product
How the Soil pH Meter works
Soil that is too acid or too alkaline locks nutrients away from the roots, however much fertiliser you apply. Knowing the pH, and whether the soil is dry or wet, is the cheapest way to avoid wasting seed, water and feed.
This meter has two long metal probes and a small dial on a green-and-silver body. A selector chooses between pH, moisture and light. Insert the probes into moist soil, read the pointer and you have an instant answer without chemicals or batteries in most models.
It is a screening tool, not a laboratory instrument. Use it to compare beds, to decide where to water, and to see whether a pot has enough light. For field decisions that cost money, confirm important readings with a soil test kit or a laboratory.
Before you buy the Soil pH Meter
A quick pH and moisture check helps you decide what a bed needs before you plant, water or feed. It is a handy screening tool, but not a replacement for a laboratory analysis when you plan a serious fertiliser programme.
