About this product

How the Bypass Loppers works

Loppers give you the reach and the leverage that hand shears cannot. This pair uses the bypass action: a curved blade slides past a hooked jaw like a pair of scissors, so the branch is sliced rather than crushed. That keeps the wound on the tree tidy, and tidy cuts heal faster.

The handles are long and dark, finished with cushioned black-and-orange grips and a coloured collar near the head. The length does the hard work for you, and the soft grips stay comfortable through a long morning in the orchard or a full day of clearing.

At the head you will find a pivot with a tightening bolt, so the blade and hook can be kept closing snugly as the tool wears in. It is a simple design with parts that are easy to look after, which is exactly what you want from a tool that is used every season.

We supply these loppers from Istanbul as single units for growers and in cartons for shops and distributors. Ask us for the cutting capacity, handle length and weight of the current batch, and we will confirm them in writing before you order.

Before you buy the Bypass Loppers

Loppers earn their place the first time you stand under an old fruit tree with a thick branch to remove. Choose a long-handled pair if you prune above shoulder height, and check that the cutting capacity suits the branches you actually have. For hedges and young wood, ordinary shears are quicker and gentler on the plant.

Questions

Questions about the Bypass Loppers

Living, green branches. The scissor-like action leaves a smooth cut. For very hard, dry or dead wood, a pruning saw is usually the safer choice.
